Challenge Report #002
Thin & Toxic Atmosphere
"Martian air is 100 times thinner than Earth's and composed of 95% carbon dioxide. Without a pressure suit, your blood would boil instantly at body temperature (Armstrong Limit), and you would asphyxiate within minutes."
Key Data
Presión
6 mbar (0.6% Tierra)
Composición
95% CO₂ (Tóxico)
Límite Armstrong
63 mbar (Sangre Hierve)
Polvo
Percloratos 0.5%
The Hostile Reality
Outside the protective cocoon of Earth's magnetosphere, crews are exposed to two sources of lethal ionizing radiation.
1. Armstrong Limit
Atmospheric pressure is so low (0.6% of Earth's) that bodily fluids boil at skin temperature. A full pressure suit is mandatory for any EVA.
Current Tech (TRL 9)
- MOXIE: Prover oxygen extraction from Martian CO2.
- Sabatier Reactor: Combining CO2 with Hydrogen to produce Methane and Water.
Future Engineering
Magnetic Shield: An artificial magnetosphere at L1 could allow the atmosphere to rebuild over centuries.
